Marie-Paule Olinger, who was born on August 11, 1952 in Luxembourg, is a painter of imaginary landscapes, the figure in movement and free style portraits. She works in oils, mixed media on canvas, and ink drawings on paper. She worked as a freelance journalist in Luxembourg before she turned to painting after a near death experience in 1972. Selftaught she had a few solo exhibitions in Luxembourg in the 1980's, before she moved to London in 1987. Olinger began studying with Maggi Hambling at Morley College from 1988 -1993. Followed by a year of Printmaking at Morley College. From 1994-95 she took drawing classes after Cecil Collins with Ruth Eisenhardt at St. Martins School of Art. After a residential workshop in the late 1990s she started to run free style drawing classes from her studio in Battersea.
Olinger's first series of paintings date back to 1974, and were imaginary colourful landscapes, where the contrast between light and darkness played a central role.
From the late 1980s the human figure in her work, started to become prevalent. A series of experimental work was the result, leading in the 1990s to her free style acrylic paintings and drawings.
Wings, birds and clouds, are a recurrant theme throughout her work, and during those years animals and torsos based on Greek sculptures populated her paintings.
She created the series The Power of the Femina in 1995 based on creative Luxemburg women over the last centuries. The series Dreaming a Head were inspired by listening to the music of Steve Hackett - Midsummer Nights Dream.
In 2002 Traces of Timeless Energies speaks of universal energies, the body and flowers in movement.
The series Kissed by the Light in 2003 is based on her vision of the soul dancing towards the light.
In 2004 her work came full circle with The Riding Home series. This series is a return to the light imbued landscapes of the soul.
After 23 years in London she moved to Germany in 2007.
2009-2011 she created the series Farbenklänge, followed by Fashionmania.
